We found a yellow labrador the other day running around in the school playground. He was wearing a red bandana but no collar. We tried to find his owner but no one claimed him. He was a big dog but very friendly and obedient, so we took him home with us. Unfortunately we couldn’t let him stay inside cause we couldn’t be sure that he didn’t have any disease or would get along with Mo. To make matters worse it was starting to rain, so we quickly created a shelter with an overturned kiddie pool and an old rug.
We felt like we were doing the right thing by taking in this strange dog. Besides we would want someone do the same for our Mo if he was lost.
The night was long with his loud barking. I would rush down and point a finger and say ‘ssshh’! He looked at me sideways but understood the command. He woke us again about 6am. We decided that we would not be able to keep him another night and I prepared to call the animal shelter after I took Jacob to school.
On my way to school I saw a sign for a missing labrador. I immediately called and confirmed that it was the same dog that we found. The owner was very appreciative and came by the house later that afternoon to pick him up. We later found out that the owner was a former neighbor and the dog’s name is ‘Texas’. We were all very happy to reunite the dog and give this story a happy ending.
